Touché pour Mac

This is a wonderful app, and I feel sorry for the folks who went all snooty on the various Mac groups when I mourned the departure of the Touch Bar from the MacBookPro. They don't seem to realise how inflexible the use of fn+function keys is on the new MacBooks. The way Touché automatically offers me exactly the right commands I’m likely to want, specific to the app I’m running, is v.useful and soooo satisfying. One thing that puzzles me is that I’m running Touché1.6 but I only see Touché1.4 offered on the makers’ web page. Dunno what’s happening there. Never mind: if you don't have it yet, download whatever version you see, pronto!

This app is so cool! It perfectly simulates the touch bar and coming from a MacBook Pro without the touch bar, it's really nice to be able to get all of those the features I missed out on.

Touché is super helpful – especially if you combine it with Better Touch Tool. I have a MacBook Pro with integrated Touch Bar but thanks to Touché I can use all those context-sensitive functions of the MacBook's Touch Bar directly with the mouse – which speeds up my workflow again. And when I don't need it, I hide it quickly with the mouse based on Better Touch Tool. Love it !! :D

I'm using Touché with macOS 10.12.2 Beta (16C48b) and it seems to work perfectly. I've been using it for only about five minutes, so who knows whether I'll later find a problem. Meanwhile...

There was a bug in the app The Hit List that was triggered by running Touché, which turned out to be (as per guess of the dev of Touché) an incompatibility of The Hit List with Apple's Touch Bar. The dev of The Hit List pushed out an update that solves the problem as of yesterday.

Meanwhile, Touché is a great free utility. The developer is an excellent fellow who was very responsive when I wrote him about the incompatibility of The Hit List.

It was unsurprisingly painful to run Apple's installer for macOS 10.12.2 v2 on my 12.12.2v1 boot volume. But that's Apple's fault. (The first attempt, I ran the update installer from my main volume. The installer hung during the final minute of updating. So I ran the updater from my second volume that I use for repairs of the first volume. The updater then ran smooth as silk and I got to play with excellent Touché).
